| | | JULIE JUSTER - Private Tutor | |
| | | In 1997, while working as a Deputy Supervisor for a successful car insurance company, she made the decision to take the Hornsby intensive course to be able to teach dyslexic children/adults.
Being dyslexic herself, she found the course difficult, but persevered spending many nights burning the midnight oil, which then resulted in a suitable qualification. | |
| She left the company, where she had been employed for 12 years, to devote her time to teaching children of all ages, on a full-time basis. | | | | |
Julie's natural ability to teach maths, led her to working in
the Maths Department at Shirley School, where she has been for the
last 7 years. She has now progressed to teaching Child
Development alongside the Maths subject.
| |
|
She is currently, not only teaching, but running a Women's'
Group and a Summer PlayClub for Children. Both directed towards families
on low income or with disabilities.
| | | Her aims are not just to teach but also give assistance to parents in an effort to prevent children from "disappearing into the system". | | | | | | | Oliver | | Julie has fought passionately for our son Oliver. Although severely dyslexic, Oliver has a high IQ. She insists, that he should not go through the similar experiences she had while she was at school.
| | He has also featured many times in the Croydon Advertiser and has appeared, along with Julie on a TV programme called "Move on Up", which went out on prime time LWT. 4 years ago, Oliver won a National Lego competition for creating a 5 minute animation.
| | | | |
We are very proud of Oliver, who, for all
intense and purposes, was regarded as thick. We have
persevered, along with the backing of his primary school and the Croydon
Education Authorities; he is now, not only doing extremely well, but
showing signs of talents in various areas. | | He loves his school namely, the New School at West Heath, (Princess Diana's School now owned by El Fayed) where he gets a very positive education. The staff devote their time to his talents so much so, that he is somewhat devastated, if for any reason he has to miss a single day. - by David Juster

| TEACHING | | I began by teaching only primary school children but now I teach any age as I found it hard to turn away older children, especially when a parent rings me desperate for help with their child.
| | The range of children’s ages I teach at the moment is generally 8yrs up to 16yrs. though I currently have 2 students above the age of 40, so if you are of latter years and you have problems, you might want to try some Maths or English lessons.
| | |
Some of the younger students are preparing for examinations
in the hopes of attaining a higher grade than they would expect without the
extra tutoring.
| | | I can do assessments and am also willing to go to the school to liaise with Teachers/ Heads/ Educational Authorities about the child's needs and how the school can provide help. | |
| Over the years I have taught many children and take
great delight in seeing them reach their goals and achieving a good
grade in either Sats or GCSE. |
| I use Alpha to Omega system and do a lot of
teaching with the computer. I use various fun Educational software
including Word Shark and Number Shark as I find Dyslexic children find
it easier to learn and retain if the teaching is visual and fun. - Julie |
